Supply and Processing of Iron Ore ROM: Optimizing Recovery for Fines and Lumps
Understanding Iron Ore ROM (Run of Mine)
In the global steel value chain, Iron Ore Run of Mine (ROM) serves as the foundational raw material. Extracted directly from open-cast or underground mines, ROM ore consists of a mixture of various sizes, shapes, and mineralogical grades. To meet the rigorous demands of modern blast furnaces and pelletization plants, this raw ore must undergo sophisticated processing to separate it into two primary commercial products: Iron Ore Lumps and Iron Ore Fines.
The Processing Journey: From ROM to Refined Product
Efficient recovery of iron content requires a multi-stage beneficiation process designed to maximize Fe (iron) percentage while minimizing alumina and silica impurities.
1. Primary & Secondary Crushing
ROM ore, often arriving in boulders up to 1200mm, is fed into jaw or gyratory crushers. This stage reduces the size to a manageable range for secondary cone crushers, ensuring the structural integrity of the ore is maintained while preparing it for screening.
2. Precise Screening & Sizing
Sizing is the critical step that defines the market value. We utilize multi-deck vibrating screens to categorize the ore:
- Iron Ore Lumps: Typically sized between 10mm to 40mm. These are used directly in blast furnaces.
- Iron Ore Fines: Particles smaller than 10mm (typically -10mm). These are essential for sintering and pelletizing processes.
3. Beneficiation & Washing
To achieve high & low-grade Fe content (48% to 60%+), the ore undergoes washing (log washers or screw classifiers) and gravity separation. This removes "gangue" materials, ensuring the final product meets the chemical specifications required for domestic and export markets.
Supply Dynamics: Domestic Growth & Export Excellence
Our supply chain is strategically positioned to serve both the burgeoning Domestic Steel Industry and the competitive Export Market.
Domestic Market Supply
Supporting national infrastructure, we provide consistent supply to integrated steel plants. By offering localized logistics and customized Fe grades, we help domestic manufacturers maintain high-efficiency hot metal production.
International Exports
Adhering to international quality standards (IMSBC Code), our Iron Ore Fines and Lumps are exported to major steel-producing hubs in Asia and Europe. We manage end-to-end logistics from mine-head to port-side, ensuring timely delivery and quality assurance.
